Need Free Legal Help? Information Session on the Legal Services Food Hub

November 19, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Everyone is invited to the entire event but the conversation will be targeted toward lawyers from 6-6:45 pm and toward farmers from 7:15-8pm. Light snacks and drinks will be available for everyone from 6:45-7:15pm.

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) recently launched a new project under our Farm & Food Initiative called the Legal Services Food Hub (LSFH). The Legal Services Food Hub is a free legal services clearinghouse for eligible farmers, food entrepreneurs, and related organizations. CLF is piloting the Legal Services Food Hub in Massachusetts with an initial focus on cases involving transactional issues, such as land acquisition/transfer, estate issues, taxes, contracts, and corporate formation, among others. For example, if you’re a farmer considering transitioning your farm to the next generation, we could match you with an estate planning attorney. Likewise, if you’re a farmer interested in entering into a purchase agreement for new land, we could find you a real estate attorney to represent you during the land transaction. Involving an attorney can help farmers avoid unforeseen liabilities, draft enforceable contracts, negotiate sound lease agreements, and effectively navigate other legal transactions.

Please join us for a chance to learn more about how the the LSFH works, meet lawyers and farmers who have benefited from its services, and understand how the LSFH might be able to assist you. During the first half of the evening, we’ll hear from a lawyer who has taken on a Legal Services Food Hub case and during the second half, we’ll hear from a farmer who found legal assistance through the Hub.

Visit our website to learn more about our services and eligibility requirements here.

RSVP: By November 17 to Molly Norton, or 617-850-1771.
