Assistant Gardener

We are currently looking to hire two to three Assistant Gardeners. Candidates should have some basic botanical, horticultural or agricultural experience/ understanding, the ability to work outdoors, and possess a strong desire to learn and grow in an exciting field.
Hours: Full-time (30 – 40 hours a week), March/April through November, with employees encouraged to return every season
What you’ll do:
• Install and maintain private residential gardens
• Plant annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs
• Correctly identify various plants, including weeds, and their preferred growing conditions to provide individualized, expert care in the garden.
• Prune trees and shrubs
• Weeding, watering, organically treating pests and diseases, deadheading, etc.
• Work closely with a team of builders, artisans, and laborers to build landscapes
Essential skills and attributes:
• Previous experience gardening, landscaping, or in food-based agriculture
• Have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
• Fluency in English
• Desire to grow with a one-of-a-kind small business for the long haul
• Hardworking, dedicated, efficient, and flexible
• Able to perform labor tasks such as digging, picking up 50lbs repeatedly, raking, squatting, kneeling, walking, etc.
• Keen interest in building knowledge of horticulture
• Honest, communicative, and possess major integrity
• Confident working both alone and in a group
• Friendly and helpful, especially when communicating to clients or
subcontractors
