Hiring: Clerk – Long River Produce Market

Overview
We are seeking a couple clerks to join our friendly team! Long River Produce Market (formerly Atlas Farm Store) is a market featuring some of the best produce, dairy, meat, and groceries the valley has to offer. We work closely with 150+ farms and producers, all in a 200-mi radius. Our mission includes strengthening our local food economy and increasing access to fresh, local food through programs like SNAP/HIP and work with community partners. Clerks are responsible for the daily operations of the store, from stocking and receiving to customer service.
Duties
- Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, provide accurate change, process credit/gift cards, EBT, and checks, and perform daily opening and closing responsibilities according to protocol
- Greet customers when they walk through the door and ask if they need assistance. Show customers the locations of items they are looking for and suggest complementary items when appropriate
- Restock shelves continually to ensure optimum availability and accessibility of products. Use rotation protocol to ensure freshness of perishable products
- Receive, label, store, and stock all orders according to protocol
- Understand and communicate information regarding product availability, origin, ingredients, etc.
- Answer customer questions accurately and kindly. Seek additional information as needed from other staff, the vendor information binder, and/or vendor websites
- Answer the telephone in a pleasant and caring way
- Take curbside orders via phone and pack them accurately and efficiently. Process payment as needed and leave relevant notes for the next day’s staff
- Basic understanding of plant care, taking care of seasonal plants including watering, deadheading, facing, etc.
- Answer basic gardening and plant care questions for customers. Know how to find answers to questions you don’t know, be knowledgeable about the resources we have to offer customers regarding gardening and plant care
- Participate in counting store’s physical inventory as needed
- Participate in case cleanings as needed. Maintain a clean and tidy workspace
- React to all concerns of customers quickly with a sense of importance. Follow protocol for returns and exchanges and relay feedback appropriately
- Use Slack to stay up to date with updates and notes from other staff
- Attend staff meetings
- Follow current sanitizing procedures and public health guidelines
- Communicate about schedule changes, protocol questions, etc. and ask questions as needed!
Skills
- Friendliness and the ability to provide great customer service
- Basic computer & cash-handling skills
- Communication & the ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of & passion for local ag/food is a plus, but we provide training!
Compensation
- Hourly wage starts at $16.50
- Paid time off starting at one week, plus paid sick time
