Hiring: Farm Manager – Red Fire Farm
Red Fire Farm is looking for a new Farm Manager to oversee our Granby farm! This location is our home farm, and is a large part of the community we try so hard to foster. Not only do we have a retail store here, but we also host year-round CSA pickups, have pick your own fields, and also hold events throughout the growing season. The Granby farm grows about 30 acres of organic vegetables and 10 acres of young fruit trees and bushes with a small IPM orchard, as well as lots of cover-crops.
The ideal candidate has experience working on a diverse vegetable farm, has leadership experience, is excited and committed to growing local, organic food. We are seeking someone who is organized, hardworking, and thinks creatively to solve problems and improve systems. We are willing to train a person with passion and care for growing and our local food system.
Some of the Responsibilities:
Organize daily lists with crew and field information
Coordinate field work and harvest crews throughout the day
Practice best methods for work and train others in how to improve
Set pace and promote hustle
Know best harvest field locations for each crop in season, and inform crew
Operate tractors safely and efficiently for field care or harvest
Lead or be on field or harvest crews when not fulfilling other duties
Labor oversight, position planning, and allocation for harvest processes
Inform and coordinate Granby harvest and pack process for best integration across the farm system
Requirements:
Some leadership and supervisory experience
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Google docs
English proficiency, both written and spoken is required, and Spanish or Somali is a plus
Ability to work with hustle outdoors with lots of lifting, and help motivate others to do the same
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Experience with diverse vegetable crops
Some background with tree fruit and berry horticulture is a plus
The desire to commit to multiple seasons of employment and grow with the farm is a plus
Housing option available on-farm.
Schedule: Hours are full-time from mid March through mid December, with part time winter work, and extra hours available in other departments of the farm if interested.
