Hiring: Beginning Farmer Specialist – MDAR

The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) mission is to help keep the Massachusetts’ food supply safe and secure, and to work to keep Massachusetts agriculture economically and environmentally sound.

MDAR is accepting resumes and applications for a Beginning Farmer Specialist to join the Farm Viability & Business Training Programs team.

This contract employee position is responsible for coordination and support of the MDAR’s Farm Viability and Agricultural Business Training programs that work directly with beginning farmers to provide them with technical assistance and training, business planning, and grant funding to increase the viability of these farms. This position will coordinate the Matching Enterprise Grant for Agriculture (MEGA) program and the Exploring the Small Farm Dream course. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of agriculture and small business assistance as well as strong communication skills to develop relationships with farmers to understand and respond to their needs.

Please note that the Beginning Farmer position in the Viability Programs will be based in western MA out of MDAR’s West Springfield (once offices open again; currently staff are working remotely until at least end of March).
