Free School 4 Farm Workers: Contracts and Negotiating 101
February 13 - February 20Free
Come celebrate the kick-off of Free School 4 Farm Workers by joining us for this two-part online workshop where we take a deep dive into farm employment contracts and negotiation skills. Click here for more information.
We will explore what qualifies as an employment contract and what purpose these documents can play on the farm. We’ll consider common techniques you can use when negotiating – whether as part of a formal contract or for other benefits like a pay raise or a new title. We will learn to assess when it is appropriate and safe to negotiate, consider both collective and individual action, and discuss how to prepare for and recover from what may be an emotionally charged experience.
We will be joined by experts in agricultural labor standards, employment law, worker-led organizing, and coping and deescalation strategies. All sessions will also include farm workers sharing about their experiences and lesson learned relating to contracts and negotiations. Expertise spans both the U.S. and Canadian contexts.
Dates: February 13th, 7pm and February 20th 7pm
These sessions are for farm workers only.
Sessions will be recorded and shared with all registrants.
Simultaneous language interpretation into both French and Spanish is available upon request.
