Hiring: Assistant Director Livestock/Pasture – Hampshire College Farm
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an assistant director – livestock/pasture for its Farm Center. The Hampshire College Farm is a thriving working farm providing campus and community members with organically grown produce and pasture-raised meat, as well as rich educational opportunities. Whether exploring plant science, animal behavior, or green design, Hampshire students and faculty use the farm as a hub for investigating the intellectual, political, and scientific issues surrounding food production. We are seeking an experienced livestock farmer to join our dynamic team. The assistant director will work with a variety of livestock, including cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, and goats, and is ultimately responsible for farm livestock health, well-being, and general care.
Responsibilities include:
- Production, distribution, and sales of meat and other farm products;
- Supervision of student employees and summer interns;
- Creation and tracking of livestock enterprise budgets;
- General farm and field maintenance;
- Assistance with farm-based educational opportunities and programming
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience and a minimum of three seasons of livestock and pasture management experience (with an emphasis on meat production) or other farm-related experience is required. Candidate should have excellent record maintenance; possess proficient organizational and time management skills; have strong written and oral communication skills; and exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills.
