Hiring: Assistant Grower-Brookwood Community Farm

Brookwood Community Farm is a non-profit working farm located just outside of Boston in Milton, MA. With 8+ acres in vegetable and flower production spread over three close range sites. We use non-certified organic methods to produce food for a mid-size CSA, a farmer’s market, and a robust food donation program. While Brookwood is primarily a production farm, our mission is to connect people to food and farming opportunities. One way we do this is by offering regular volunteer and educational opportunities for our farm members as well as groups and individuals from Boston and the surrounding communities. We are also committed to increasing access to local, organic foods in underserved communities.

We are seeking an assistant grower for this season!

Position Duration: March – October/November depending on availability

Tuesday-Saturday, with hours from 7am-5pm (hours vary slightly in season)

The Assistant Grower, working closely with the Farm Manager, will assist in all aspects of vegetable production including greenhouse management, planting, cultivation, irrigation management, harvest, wash and packing, and tractor work. This person will also be charged with leading our weekly farmer’s market in Roslindale. We are looking for someone who enjoys fast paced, efficient work, is flexible, passionate, works well alone and with a group and who is a good communicator. S/he must have the ability and interest to work long hours outside in any type of weather. Qualified candidates must be able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs and have a valid driver’s license At least 1 year of farming experience is required.

The right candidate should be excited about working with community members of all backgrounds and ages to promote the farm’s mission. We strive to balance the high demands on our operations while integrating education and volunteerism, while taking time to enjoy what we do.

Compensation is $11-13/hr (depending on experience) for 40 hrs a week from March to early November, produce from the farm, participation in emasscraft learning session, a $250 educational stipend to explore areas of farming that interest you.
