Hiring: Crew Leader – Neighborhood Farm

The Neighborhood Farm is a 5 acre, all natural vegetable farm on the Dover/Medfield line. We lease land from The Trustees and grow produce for farmers markets, our farmers market CSA and several restaurants.

We are seeking a full time crew leader interested in working on a small family farm operation. The crew leader will supervise and work along side the crew members on all aspects of vegetable, herb and flower production and harvesting including, planting, weeding, irrigation, greenhouse work, harvest, washing, packing and selling at farmers’ markets. Kate and Jude (the farm owners and managers) will provide direction and instructions, but the crew leader should be comfortable organizing small groups to work efficiently and productively.

We are looking for a crew leader with at least one year farming experience. Candidates should be flexible, productive, easy to work with, respectful, professional, open minded, and responsible, with a good sense of humor to see them through the challenges of farming. The crew leader must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record.

The work can be physically challenging as we do the vast majority of our work by hand. Candidates should be able to lift 50 lbs, repeatedly. We will be working outside in all weather conditions. The hours will vary by season, but can be long (between 35 and 50 hr/week). Crew leaders will work a Monday through Friday schedule with Sunday greenhouse duties once a month. Some schedule changes are possible, but in general the schedule will be set.

The crew leader position begins in early April, and runs through Thanksgiving. The crew leader must commit for the entire season.

Compensation: $12/hour, and vegetables from the farm. Unfortunately, we cannot provide housing.

As a family owned small business, we are committed to helping others prepare to start their own farming and gardening operations. We love to work with people who are exploring the possibilities of starting their own enterprises, and with people who are just looking for more experience in farming and gardening.

If you are interested, please email Kate and Jude. For more information about the farm, please visit our website. Please contact us with any questions.
