Hiring: Farm Crew Member – Book and Plow Farm

The Farm Crew Member works towards the success of the Book & Plow Farm by being directly involved in all aspects of vegetable production, and assisting the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager with the crop plan schedule. The crew member assists in overseeing student interns over the summer and work-study students and volunteers during the school year. The Farm Crew Member also takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Farm Production

  • Seed, plant, and cultivate crops including greenhouse production
  • Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers
  • Set up and operate irrigation equipment
  • Harvest and wash crops
  • Utilize cover crop and other field care techniques
  • Operate tractor
  • Repair and maintain equipment

Community Relations

  • Assist the manager(s) with overseeing work crews

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of a degree, 1 year of experience working on a production farm
  • A valid driver’s license and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles.

Preferred

  • 1 year of experience working on a production farm
  • Experience engaging with students and volunteers
  • Experience in farm activities including greenhouse, cultivation, tractor operation, irrigation, and harvest
