Hiring: Farm Manager – Matunuck Oyster Vegetable Farm

We are seeking a Farm Manager for the Matunuck Oyster Bar’s organic vegetable farm.  The Matunuck Oyster Vegetable Farm is a 9-acre farm that grows a wide variety of vegetables primarily for the Matunuck Oyster Bar.  The Farm is Located in South Kingstown, RI within a couple of miles of Matunuck, and East Matunuck beach. The Matunuck vegetable farm strives to produce the highest quality produce possible.  We provide the majority of large vegetables to the restaurant as well as focusing on smaller crops such as salad mixes, micro greens, herbs, garnishes and flowers.  The farm focuses on season extension to be able to provide produce year round.  In addition to producing for the restaurant we grow produce for several summer and winter farmers markets, with the potential to expand into some wholesale accounts.

The Farm Manager works directly with the Head Chef at the Matunuck Oyster Bar to create a farm plan and coordinate production.  The farm Manager will be responsible for all aspects of operations for the vegetable farm.  This will include creating and implementing a crop plan, hiring and management of farm staff, and preforming or managing tractor work.  The Farm manager will be responsible for purchasing farm supplies, and keeping accurate farm records, as well as yearly renewal of organic certification.  The farm manager works directly under the Owner of the restaurant and farm and is expected to work independently.

Qualifications
We seek an individual that has a strong interest in sustainable agriculture and in working on a fast-paced production farm. A minimum of 3 seasons of previous farming experience is a required with at least one in a management position. We are looking for individuals with a cheerful disposition who enjoy working hard.  We expect candidates to be knowledgeable of organic farming practices who are both responsible and flexible. Candidates must have experience working with tractors and implements as well as in farm planning, fertility management, pest control, weed control, and cover cropping.  The candidate must be able to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks, work in all kinds of weather, and are able lift 50 lbs.

This is a year round salaried position with compensation based upon experience,ranging from $60,000-$70,000.  There is no housing available on the farm.
