Hiring: Farm Viability and Business Training Coordinator – MDAR

Farm Viability and Business Training Coordinator full-time contractor position is available at the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources’ western MA office.  Primary responsibilities of position include:

  • Coordinate MDAR’s APR Improvement Program, the farm viability program which provides business planning, technical assistance and grants to help farms already protected through the Agricultural Preservation Restriction Program stay profitable and productive.
  • Provide stewardship support to Farm Viability Enhancement Program participants with short-term agricultural covenants on their property.
  • Facilitate Growing your Farm business planning course for established farmers to receive support to develop a farm business plan.
  • Project tracking, budgeting, reporting.

The desired candidate will have a strong understanding of the needs of the Massachusetts agricultural sector, more than 3 years of professional experience in the agricultural industry or a related field, and a degree(s) related to planning, finance and business that has direct application to agricultural business development, such as Business Management, Regional Planning, Environmental Policy or Planning, Finance, Agricultural or Resource Economics.  Familiarity with business planning, financial statements, agricultural operations, resource management, direct marketing, succession planning and the regional food system and strong communication, project management and organization skills are desired.  This position reports to the Program Manager, Farm Viability and Agricultural Business Training Programs, in the western MA MDAR office in West Springfield.  For a full position description and/or for information about to apply, click here.
