Hiring: Nursery Associate

Overview:

This is a part time position that requires a working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, fertilizers, pest management and pesticides. This position is responsible for interacting with customers to recommend and advise on the best plants and products available to complete their lawn and garden projects. This position includes work in greenhouse and around the property, helping to complete all tasks, and reporting to the Nursery Manager.  Will enthusiastically develop competency in and complete all tasks established by the Nursery Manager, Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to effectively and efficiently grow quality nurse stock for the community.

Main Responsibilities

Strong interpersonal skills, operating in a customer focused retail environment.

Assist in unloading and checking incoming deliveries ensuring they are complete and undamaged.

Stocking products in a safe and non-damaging way.

Stock rotation

Assist in keeping greenhouse, show floor, storage areas and parking lot organized, swept, clean and trash free at all times.

Helping maintain lawns and gardens.

Maintaining nursery stock through pruning, training, fertilizing and pest management.

Being receptive to learning new methods of farming/gardening and sharing existing knowledge of farming/gardening.

This position requires typical physical demands for greenhouse labor, such as walking, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting, lifting up to 50 lbs and working indoors and outdoors in cold, hot or wet conditions on uneven surfaces.

This position requires strong teamwork skills promoting qualities that allow one to work well with others during conversations, projects, and other collaborations. Teamwork skills are dependent on associates’ ability to communicate well, actively listen and be responsible and honest.

Assist other departments with additional projects and work-related errands.

Taking stewardship of the land, plants and environment by making a commitment to the sustainability and well-being of the Co-op and the people involved.

Pay:$16-$18 an hour
