Hiring: Seasonal Farm Assistant – Abundance Farm

Abundance Farm is seeking to hire a full-time seasonal farm assistant for the 2026 growing season (April–October) to work alongside our farm manager, volunteers, and teen interns to assist with all aspects of farm production, support our Pick Your Own program, and provide occasional staffing for farm public farm events. The schedule for this position will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8 am–4:30 pm, and Wednesday 10am–6:30pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch. This position pays $18/hour.

About Abundance Farm and CBI:

Abundance Farm is a Jewish food justice farm, outdoor classroom, and community building space located in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Farm is a unique collaboration at CBI Northampton, a vibrant and growing progressive Jewish community, together with the Northampton Survival Center and Lander-Grinspoon Academy, to support local food security and to create a unique outdoor learning environment. Abundance Farm is a beautiful urban oasis where people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds are drawn for nourishment, community, and learning.

Abundance Farm works to build a more generous, just, and sustainable world. We do this by offering earth-based, community building experiences that integrate Jewish tradition, regenerative agriculture, and food justice. The Farm is managed using no-till practices. Our land management practices prioritize soil health, biological diversity, pollinators, climate resilience and carbon sequestration. We use permanent no-till beds, cover cropping, fallow cycles, heavy mulching and occultation as elements of our holistic approach. B

Abundance Farm is a national leader in the field of Jewish Community Farming. The Farm serves more than 5000 people annually through a variety of educational, justice, and community oriented programs. The Farm serves as an outdoor classroom for our campus’ three schools (Gan Keshet, ALMA and Lander-Grinspoon Academy, our neighboring K-6 Jewish day school).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of farm production on our hand-powered, low-tillage farm, including bed prep, planting, seeding, weeding, mulching, pruning, building new beds, making compost, and crop trellising.
  • Implement the crop plan and weekly priorities as developed in collaboration with Farm Manager and Farm Educator.
  • Assist in maintaining and running the farm’s drip irrigation system.
  • Assist in staffing weekly Community Harvest/Volunteer hours, including greeting visitors and helping lead volunteer groups.
  • Support in keeping Pick Your Own signage updated.
  • Support farm infrastructure through sign painting and basic construction.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor toward all visitors to our public-access farm.
  • Provide occasional support for public farm events, depending on need.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of farming, gardening, or landscaping experience, preferably on a no-till, non-mechanized farm
  • Commitment to Abundance Farm’s mission, vision and goals, including food justice principles and regenerative farming practices
  • Experience working successfully with people of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds regularly
  • Ability to perform physical labor up to 8 hours daily outdoors
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team

Demands/Environment:

Work in an outdoor setting on Farm. Physical labor to include heavy lifting, bending, and work in all weather conditions.

Contacts and Supervision:

The Farm Assistant is accountable to the Farm Manager.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, seasonal position (28 weeks, April – October). Normal work hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8 am–4:30 pm, and Wednesday 10am–6:30pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required with significant advance notice to support farm events.

Salary and Benefits:

This position pays $18/hour. The farm assistant is not eligible for company-sponsored benefits, unless otherwise required by law.
