Weekend Greenhouse Assistant

Part-time, Weekends, April-September

Next Barn Over is a 50-acre, organic vegetable farm in Hadley, MA. We grow forty crops for our 600-member CSA and several local wholesale customers. We are looking for someone to assist in our propagation greenhouse on weekends throughout the growing season: April – September.  Work includes watering, venting, and occasional seeding. Hours and tasks fluctuate somewhat with the weather. Generally expect 1-2 visits/day on overcast days and 3-5 on hot sunny days. Each visit should take 15-45 minutes. We offer competitive pay.

The ideal candidate is a plant lover, lives in close proximity to our greenhouse on Cemetery Rd. in Hadley, is looking for part-time hours, and is available on weekends throughout the growing season. We can accommodate a couple of weekends off with advanced notice. This position can be combined with part-time farm work during the week for the right individual.

Qualifications:

We are looking for someone who:

• Is extremely responsible and timely. Watering at certain hours is essential and a delayed or missed watering can mean losing a substantial amount of plants.
• Is self-motivated and able to work independently
• Is detail oriented and able to pay close attention to the plants

Responsibilities include:

• Visiting greenhouse 1-5 times per day, Saturdays and Sundays, April – September, to open and close vents, water seedlings, and communicate any relevant observations about seedlings to manager
