Western Mass Regenerative Food System Coordinator
Part-time, 20 hours/week
Temporary position running for 6 months from January through July 2021
Remote, but must live in Western Massachusetts

Opportunity: NOFA/Mass is hiring a 6-month position for a new staff person to coordinate next steps to launch the Western Mass Regenerative Food System (RFS). RFS is an initiative to create and connect food hubs including in Western Massachusetts and eventually across the Northeast. The aim of reaching 30% regeneratively grown/consumed food by 2030 will be through supporting/boosting infrastructure, financing, distribution, and storage as well as farmer training and public education.

The RFS Coordinator reports directly to the NOFA/Mass Food Access & Equity Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate project (setting meeting dates, drafting agendas, facilitating meetings)
  • Segment objectives into working group sub committees
  • Conduct research on existing projects/players and their needs
  • Curate existing wisdom into a coherent plan
  • Survey existing organizations
  • Facilitate listening sessions with farmers, food activists, community members, thought leaders, allies
  • Identify gaps in existing systems
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration
  • Develop regenerative training opportunities for farmers
  • Assign participants into relevant working group subcommittees
  • Develop materials (website, etc.)
  • Communicate periodically with Southern Vermont Regenerative Food System
  • Help move from conversation into tangible next steps

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience facilitating meetings and conversations
  • Understanding of indigenous roots of regenerative systems
  • Understanding of network structures
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to democratic practices
  • Passion for food systems with a regenerative focus
  • Commitment to dismantling racism and other injustices in the food system through training and practices
  • Timely and organized work habits with a high level of personal responsibility

Other position information:

  • Hours very flexible with some organizational meeting attendance required
  • Ability to travel occasionally around Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties required
  • This job can generally be accomplished from home
  • Employee must attend NOFA/Mass staff meetings while on staff
  • Employee must submit weekly staff reports, participate in peer reviews, and maintain monthly timesheets.

Compensation: $18-$22/hour dependent on experience.  No health insurance available at this time. Monthly stipend for internet & phone.
