Opportunity: Part-time Farm Worker – A Beautiful Future Farm

A Beautiful Future is a 2 acre farm and homestead in Westhampton. Year round household organic vegetable and fruit production, ornamental plant production and sales (farm stand).

This position offers primarily subsidized housing in a lovely in-law suite, and a share of food produced instead of wages for a live in part-time farm worker. It is located in a beautiful rural suburban country setting in Westhampton, 20 minutes from Northampton and the highway (91) north and south.

We are looking for the right person to share our home, lifestyle, and share in the workload (360 hours per year minimum, approximately 30 non consecutive hours per month based on seasonal needs) for an energy efficient, small-scale homestead, with current year round (outside and hoop house) vegetable and fruit production, and future farming potential.  There is extra land available (up to 1 acre) for housemate workers future development of farming or growing project ideas (organic only), which is negotiable with a long-term resident (someone who lives here 1 year or more).

This is part time year round work planting, weeding, watering, picking/harvesting, pruning, clean up/site maintenance, and snow removal.

This position requires some passion, knowledge and/or experience with vegetable and/or ornamental growing, a good work ethic, good health, energy and strength, mentally stability, a positive attitude and commitment to a healthy, very clean, and quiet lifestyle (no recreational drugs on site and no drug/alcohol abuse).

The position is open ongoing (starting April 2016) until it is filled.

The available in-law suite contains a 12 x 14 bedroom, a living/dining room, kitchen, and shared bath (shower, no bathtub) located in an in-law wing attached to the main house. The in-law area was built in 2007 and has wood and tile floors, large windows, non-toxic wood cabinets, a stovetop and microwave for cooking (no oven). It is well insulated. The in-law suite is currently furnished, but some or all of the furniture could be cleared for someone who has their own bedroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen furnishings. There is a bedroom closet, a coat closet, a large linen closet, and a full set of kitchen cabinets. No extra storage space is available. The entry hallway into the suite and the laundry area is shared with the owners, and the owners use the suite bathroom occasionally.

Included for the monthly expense fee and work requirement of 360 hours per year are cable Internet, basic cable TV, hot water, same floor laundry, trash, 1 car parking under carport, and one tank (aprox 100 gal) of propane gas per year. Electric for the in-law suite is on a separate meter and will be paid for in full each month by the house share resident. The residents share of non subsidized monthly expenses (except for their separate electric
bill) is $425 a month.
