Hiring: Technical Assistance and Incubator Farm Coordinator – New Entry Sustainable Farming Project

The New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, a beginning farmer training program, is seeking a full-time, year-round Technical Assistance and Incubator Farm Coordinator, to begin on March 1, 2016.  The position is based in Lowell, MA with travel to farm sites in Northeastern Massachusetts.  Competitive salary and full benefits.  Participants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encourage to apply.  Cross-cultural experience required.

The full job description can be accessed online here.  The main duties of the position are to:

  • provide training and technical assistance services in all aspects of farm enterprise development (production, marketing, financial management) to beginning farmers
  • develop curriculum and teach our Farm Business Planning Courses, advanced farm workshops, and field-based practical skills trainings, and
  • manage our three incubator training farms (over 15+ acres) with field cultivation, equipment management and maintenance, and extension outreach to farmers.
  • We also provide continuing technical assistance to graduates and alumni of our training programs operating their own farms.

The ideal candidate will have owned and operated their own farm business and be comfortable safely operating a wide variety of farm equipment and associated implements.  This position is a hybrid of field-based coaching and technical assistance to producers (extension services), classroom instruction in specialty crop production and farm financial management/business planning, farm field work to maintain our incubator farm operations and equipment, and the candidate should be equally comfortable using computer software programs to communicate effectively with producers, funders, and keep up to date on the latest farm innovations, technology, and educational materials.
