A Pollinator Field Study for Teens
The New England Small Farm Institute (NESFI) presents:
A Pollinator Field Study
Thursday, September 11th 2025, 3:30pm (Rain date, Tuesday September 16th)
At NESFI, 270 Jackson Street, Belchertown, MA
UMass post-doctoral researcher Dr. Jules Davis will lead a field study for students in grades 6 to 12 (parents welcome, too!) exploring late summer pollinators on the NESFI campus. Participants will be exposed to basic field study and data collection techniques through an observational exercise observing and documenting pollinators on the late-summer blooming wildflowers they rely on for food. Bring your cameras! In addition, participants will have the option to collect an insect, identify it and prepare it for an insect collection with the help of Dr Davis. Dr. Davis is an affiliate of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, which is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.
Please pre-register by emailing info@smallfarm.org. Walk-Ins are allowed if spots are available. Suggested donation per person: $10
