Film Screening – More Than Honey

October 15, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Please join CISA for a special showing of the film More Than Honey, co-presented with Amherst Cinema, that examines the mysterious decline of honeybee colonies around the world in the last 15 years. This will be followed by a panel question and answer session with CISA’s own Local Hero members Dan Conlon of Warm Colors Apiary and Ben Clark of Clarkdale Fruit Farms! Come see this stunning film and hear the panel discussion to learn how bees are impacted locally. Details and tickets here.

Dan Conlon has been learning the art of beekeeping for more than forty-five years and owns Warm Colors Apiary (established 2000) with his wife, Bonita, in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. They work as full-time beekeepers to produce honey, beeswax, and provide pollination services to Western Massachusetts orchards and farms. Warm Colors maintains 700 to 800 colonies, each averaging 60-70 pounds of honey per year. Dan raises Queens and keeps a Queen yard that can produce 200- 300 Queens annually.  Please visit their website for further information at www.warmcolorsapiary.com/

Ben Clark is a fourth-generation farmer, co-managing Clarkdale Fruit Farms with his father Tom in Deerfield, Massachusetts. The fifth generation, Emerson, was recently born to Ben and his wife Lori. The farm practices Integrated Pest Management and is committed to sustainable growing practices. The Clarks grow over 100 varieties of apples, peaches, pears, plums, grapes and cherries. More info on the farm can be found at www.clarkdalefruitfarms.com. Ben also serves as Vice Chair of the CISA board.
