Your Woods and the Values of Trees

Your woods are important to you, to your community, and to the environment. Collectively, the forests of Massachusetts provide us with many benefits, including purifying the air we breathe and the water we drink, space for wildlife and people to roam, wood to build and heat our homes, plus a beautiful backdrop as we drive along the region’s roads. The woods are a vital part of our quality of life.

Join with your neighbors to discuss:

• strategies to keep woods as woods for the long-term
• potential cash from a timber sale, and challenges too
• discuss changes after a tree cutting, how the land looks and
• implications for wildlife

These programs are for you if you are a woodland owner, forest products professional, or community member who cares about the woods. Let’s learn from each other. Pie, coffee and other light refreshments will be served. Both programs are free and open to the public.

These programs feature presentations by, and discussion with:

• A local landowner who is actively managing their forested land will talk about their experience.
• Ron Rich, a professional logger and chairman of the Barre, Massachusetts Conservation Commission.
• Doug Hutcheson, Service Forester for Massachusetts Division of Conservation and Recreation.
• And conservation professionals from your local land trust who will be on hand to provide information about land conservation options for those who are interested.
