Legislator outreach template on Trump administration impacts

Thank you for your interest in advocating for local farms and food. We’re very fortunate that our region’s members of Congress are supportive of local farms, and even so, they are in the minority party right now and therefore have limited power in Washington. But still, it’s useful for them to hear from constituents about their concerns, especially if you have a specific story about impacts to share. Here are some tools to get you started.

Hello,

My name is (your name), and I am a constituent of Rep./Sen. (your member of Congress). I am calling because I am appalled at seeing the federal government going back on the promises they’ve made to the people, especially to farmers.

An unclear amount of federal funds that were promised to Massachusetts farmers have been frozen by the Trump administration. Federal workers are being fired without cause and federal agency offices are being closed or having their leases cancelled, making it harder to get clear information about funding. This uncertainty is terrible for farmers, especially at the beginning of the growing season.

We need Rep./Sen. (your member of Congress) to stand with the farmers and organizations in our community. You have the power to prevent harm by demanding that USDA releases funding and honors its commitments now!
