NEPM: Franklin County CiderDays
🍎
Claire takes Monte and Kaliis up to West County Cider’s taproom in Shelburne to talk about this weekend’s Franklin County CiderDays (events Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Nov 1-3). We talk about some crazy apple facts and history too. You’ll hear about:
- How there are apple orchards all over the 413 and remnants of past ones scattered in the woods. Matt Kaminsky (AKA Gnarly Pippins) and Field talk about the history and diversity of local apples.
- The resurgent popularity of hard cider from Field and his mother Judith, the matriarch of West County Cider (and CiderDays). They started making small batches in 1984 when few people understood, and persevered into the hard cider boom of the 2010s.
- All the wonderful events happening this weekend! “Many opportunities to tap into Cider 😋, the history of apples and cider, and the bigger picture of local agriculture,” Sue says. And most events are free!
