NEPM: Climate Chief Hoffer visits Big River Chestnuts
.
Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer from Governor Healy’s cabinet came to tour farms and talk about how farming can play a bigger role in the state’s climate plans. Farming can be a climate solution, using techniques that move greenhouse gases from the atmosphere to the soil and help the state reach it’s climate goals (“net zero” by 2050). But farmers need help adapting to climate impacts in order to provide that service and keep feeding us!
Monte and Kaliis jump on the tour at Big River Chestnuts in Sunderland, hearing from farmers there about growing cool perennial crops like chestnuts, elderberries, persimmons and more. They also talk to Stephen Taranto from CISA’s climate program and Climate Chief Hoffer herself!
