NEPM: Flora Farm

Jennifer, Kaliis, and Monte visit flower farmer, Aspen Bey, of Flora Farm in Williamsburg.

They grow spring tulips and will be having a massive Mother’s Day tulip sale to benefit restoration of farms in Gaza. “The tulips are a heritage project for me,” says Bey. Their maternal grandmother was Dutch and lived through the WWII occupation of the Netherlands, and supported her local community by smuggling food to neighbors. In the depth of winter, they ate tulip bulbs even though they are mildly toxic, just to survive. Bey says, “For me, tulips are a sign of resistance.” Bey connected with a strawberry farmer in Gaza, who has since been martyred. His family and friends continue the work towards restoration of olive groves and farms in North Gaza. Money raised by the sale of tulips for Mother’s Day will go to this group of farmers. Bey uses the farm to spread a message of peace.

Flora Farm grows for weddings and special events with a specialty of serving queer couples. Bey is booking for 2026-2027.
