SNAP CSA participants get dollar-for-dollar match in SNAP accounts at Quabbin Harvest

The Recorder, April 28, 2017, By Recorder Staff.

ORANGE —The Quabbin Harvest Food Co-op has announced that participants in its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) CSA Shares program can now receive a dollar-for-dollar match in their SNAP (formerly food stamps) account through the Healthy Incentives Program.

According to the co-op, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs provide SNAP customers with fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Quabbin Harvest is working with the Department of Transitional Assistance to offer SNAP customers a way to pay for these fruits and vegetables, which are called CSA shares.

Participants can choose among four different vegetable and fruit CSA share options, and pick up their grub weekly or biweekly at Quabbin Harvest at 12 North Main St. The Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) provides reimbursement for the cost of the shares. Applications for the program are available at Quabbin Harvest.

For more information on HIP, call Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333 or visit www.mass.gov/hip.
