NEPM: Hettie Belle Farm

Kaliis and Monte join Jennifer Core at Hettie Belle Farm for morning chores! Listen to a slice of the life of a farmer, as they visit newborn lambs, feed grain, carry water, and clean up.

Although the Executive Director of CISA, Core and her husband are also the farmers at Hettie Belle Farm. By opening her farm for this interview, listeners can enjoy a glimpse into a day in the life of our local farmers.

Warwick sits on the top of a watershed. When explaining water access for her animals, she reflects on how small choices made on a farm impact not only their land and animals, but also the larger community. Core says, “So the choices that we make and the choices that farmers make everywhere impact all of these people, both downstream, literally and figuratively, and so it matters, right? When we choose to use organic grain, we choose to not treat our fields with imported fertilizer, these choices matter for water quality. These are the sorts of choices all farmers make every day.”
