Many local farms offer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. Most CSAs offer vegetable shares, which may include some fruit and other farm products. There are also meat, dairy, grain and herb CSAs in the Valley. Read individual listings to find out which farms offer add-on shares of fruit, flowers, meat or eggs, or have other attributes, such as delivery, off-site distribution, or farm stores offering additional products.

We at Gray Dog’s Farm offer pasture-and-forest-raised, all-natural meat CSA shares year-round.  In addition to grass and browse, we feed locally-raised, non-GMO grains and never medicate except as needed to address a specific illness.  If we need to medicate, we tell our members the situation and actions taken and try to offer substitution opportunities.  Our Meat CSA shares include beef, pork, and chicken, and include an option on lamb and cabrito. Our shares are priced in six month cycles:  Full shares, which are 14 pounds of red meat and chicken each month, are $590.  Half shares, which are 8.5 pounds of red meat and chicken, are $360.  One chicken each month is $120. Red meat-only shares are available as well. We have monthly distributions: at the farm in Huntington, and also in Northampton, in Williamsburg, and in Greenfield.  We are considering an Amherst distribution if enough members sign up there.

Hettie Belle Farm, Warwick
978-544-6241, jennifer@hettiebellefarm.com
Our organically raised & 100% grass-fed meat & poultry shares are comprised of a total of 60+ pounds of farm product distributed over 5 monthly pick-ups (November – March) of 12-15 pounds each. Shares include pastured & organically fed chicken, pork & duck as well as 100% grass-fed beef & lamb.

Don’t eat lamb, duck or otherwise? No problem. Let us know and we’ll provide more of something you and your family will really enjoy!  We raise organic, pastured turkeys and geese and can swap these into shares as well! Each monthly distribution will vary in cuts and product.

Mockingbird Farm, Easthampton
413-219-0588, pete@mockingbirdfarmma.com
We are a small, grass- and forest-based livestock farm located in Easthampton. We strive to humanely produce the most delicious and nutritious food we can. We pasture all our animals and ensure that they are able to express their species specific behaviors. Animals that receive grain are fed an organic ration. We use no weird stuff. Instead of us picking the cuts and setting a monthly quantity, as a shareholder you will be able to choose the cuts you want, when you want them. We will give each shareholder a Share Card that can be used to pay for any available items at any of our farmer’s markets or during regular on-farm pick-up hours from 12-2 on the first Sunday of the month. Shareholders can pick-up meat as often or infrequently as they choose during a six month period. New shareholders can join at any time. Shareholders benefit because when they use their Share Card, they pay 50 cents per pound less than the regular price. Shareholders will also receive regular updates about what cuts are available and priority when availability is limited. We benefit because we get payment closer to the time when we incur feed and slaughter costs, and we can better plan our production schedule. Small shares cost $300. Large shares cost $600. Large shareholders will also receive a $10 bonus, so your starting balance will be $610. All Share Card balances must be used within six months of purchase.

River Rock Farm, Brimfield
413-245-0249, Charlie@riverrockfarm.com or Lindsay@riverrockfarm.com
At River Rock Farm, we raise beef cattle and sell all natural, dry-aged beef. We do not use any artificial growth hormones, growth stimulants, or antibiotic feed additives. Our cattle are raised in pastures rather than in feedlots, and have free choice access to hay all year and fresh grass in season. For their last three months we feed a finishing ration of grain which is milled locally and allows us to use the dry aging method making the beef more tender and flavorful. We believe that we raise our livestock in ways that promote their health and well-being, as well as that of our customers. CSA shares are available year round starting any month of your choosing for a 3 month share. The small share is 6-8 lbs of beef/month good for 1-2 people for $265. The large share is 10-12 lbs of beef/month good for 3-5 people for $415. We deliver direct from our farm to your home and we also offer discounts for being a CSA host, as well as a “refer a friend” program where you can receive free beef for your referrals. Details and sign up can be found on our website: www.RiverRockFarm.com
